Closing Night Takes Place June 7th

 Austin, TX- Tuesday, April 15, 2014 – ATX Television Festival, the first festival devoted to television’s history and future, is proud to have FX Networks join them for the festival, and host Season 3’s Closing Night.  Closing Night programming will feature the world premiere of the pilot episode of The Strain in addition to the premiere of the 8th episode of Fargo.

The Strain is a highly anticipated upcoming drama series from Academy Award® nominated Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, author Chuck Hogan, and writer/producer Carlton Cuse.  The ensemble cast stars Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, Kevin Durand, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Jack Kesy, Ben Hyland, and Miguel Gomez.  Based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same title written by del Toro and Hogan, the series will make its television premiere on FX in July 2014.

Fargo is a 10-episode limited series written by Noah Hawley, which is an original adaptation of the Academy Award®-winning feature film by the Cohen brothers.  Rounding out Fargo’s colorful cast of recurring characters will be Academy Award®-winner Billy Bob Thornton as “Lorne Malvo.” Emmy® winner Bob Odenkirk as “Deputy Bill Oswalt,” Golden Globe™ and Emmy-nominated Oliver Platt as “Stavros Milos,” Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Kate Walsh as “Gina Hess,” Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as “Don Chumph,” Joey King as “Greta Grimly,” Peter Breitmayer as “Lieutenant Schmidt,” Tom Musgrave as “Bo Munk,” Josh Close as “Chazz Nygaard,” Russell Harvard as “Mr. Wrench,” Adam Goldberg as “Mr. Numbers,” Keegan-Michael Key as “Bill Budge” and Jordan Peele as “Webb Pepper.”  The series premieres tomorrow night, April 15th at 10 PM ET on FX, and the eighth episode will be screened prior to its airdate at ATX Television Festival.

Austin, TX— Friday, March 28, 2014 ATX Television Festival celebrates and honors television’s past, present, and future.  This year the festival will expand to recognize an individual’s contributions by presenting the first Achievement in Television Excellence award to Henry Winkler.

Henry Winkler began his career on iconic series including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show and Rhoda, before creating an iconic character himself with Arther “Fonzie” Fonzarelli on Happy Days. Winkler has continued to reinvent himself as unforgettable characters on the small screen, guest starring in shows including The Practice, Childrens Hospital, Parks & Recreation, Arrested Development and Royal Pains.   He has also worn the hat of Executive Producer on various series, including MacGyver, and currently has a series in development, The Winklers, with his son Max Winkler and Everybody Loves Raymond creator, Phil Rosenthal.

Henry Winkler’s body of work encompasses all the standards that make up ATX Television Festival: genuine, thoughtful, expansive, and entertaining.  He will receive the first Achievement in Television Excellence award this June 5-8, 2014 in a ceremony and conversation with the icon himself.

2014’s festival programming has taken content for fans to the next level by adding a variety of culturally appetizing programming for a wide appeal.

“Each year we strive to surpass previous year’s expectations in terms of showcasing programming from fan-favorite and premiere series.  This year we are excited to add new networks like SundanceTV and BBC America, as well as continuing our partnership with Netflix, to appeal to a wide variety of audiences.” – ATX Festival Co-Founders, Emily Gipson and Caitlin McFarland.

BBC America’s ORPHAN BLACK Co-Creators Graeme Manson and John Fawcett will attend with a new episode from Season 2. MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE’s Creator Mike Royce and star/co-creator Ray Romano will showcase their cancelled-too-soon series. And Comedy Central will bring their hit REVIEW to this year’s Festival along with Director/Writer/Producer Jeffrey Blitz and star Andy Daly.

To round out the incredible line-up, ABC’S Revenge with TBA cast members, CBS’ Reckless with creator Dana Stevens and actors Cam Gigandet and Anna Wood, TBS’ Sullivan & Son, Friday Night Lights stars Derek Phillips, Stacey Oristano and Louanne Stephens, and Austin favorite MY GENERATION with Producer/Writer Noah Hawley and TBA cast members. In addition, previously announced SundanceTV series, RECTIFY will now include Executive Producer Mark Johnson and star Abigail Spencer.

ATX Television Festival continually sets the standard while reuniting your beloved television show casts in never seen before reunions. Last year, the popular show Boy Meets World reunited on the red carpet for the first time in years. It was announced that EVERWOOD and HEY DUDE would make history by bringing the cast back together for a special night together reunited here in Austin. Joining cast members and writers will be HEY DUDE’s own Melody, better known as, Christine Taylor.

ATX Television Festival Announces First Wave Programming & Second Annual Pitch Competition

 
Austin, TX- Thursday, November 7, 2014

Reunion and Confirmed Guests Announced For Season Three of Festival in Austin, TX June 5th – 8th Austin, TX— November 7, 2013—

ATX Television Festival is pleased to announce the launch of the second annual Pitch Competition in collaboration with Final Draft, the creators of the number one selling screenwriting application in the world. The competition will allow aspiring writers and show creators to pitch their original idea for a scripted series to some of the biggest decision makers in the television industry at the third season of ATX Television Festival in Austin, TX next June 5-8th.

Participants in the Pitch Competition have ninety seconds to present their original idea for a scripted series to industry judges through a self-filmed video. The competition is open to any and all pitches for scripted series ideas. ATX Television Festival will screen all submissions and choose twenty-five semi-finalists to be judged by a panel of industry professionals including: Paul Scheer (Creator/Actor on NTSF:SD:SUV::, The League), Bryan Seabury (VP of Drama Development at CBS Network), Julie Plec (Creator/Writer The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, The Tomorrow People), Kyle Killen (Creator of Lone Star, Awake. Mind Games), Katie Krentz (Director of Comedy Animation; Cartoon Network), David Semel (Executive Producer/Director, American Dreams, Dawsons Creek, Hemlock Grove, Homeland), and special guest judges, who will narrow the twenty-five semi-finalists down to ten finalists. The ten finalists then compete at ATX Television Festival (June 5-8, 2013) in Austin, TX to pitch live before the panel of judges, who will choose one winner. This winner will receive a meeting with one of the judges to explore the idea of their series and gain notes to better develop the series, then will get a pitch meeting in front of one of the festival’s studio/network partners to try and sell their pilot for production! All participants receive a discount code for 32% off the latest version of Final Draft (retailing at $249) as well as $25 off of any level ATX Television Festival badge [to be given after Finalist are announced]. Semi-finalists receive Panel badges to the Festival, and Finalists receive a Weekend badge to the Festival, plus two tickers to the opening night screening and after-party to start the festival off right! The Finalists will also receive a complimentary copy of the most recent version Final Draft, courtesy of Final Draft.

“The pitch competition was eye opening and door opening all at once. We got to see pitches for nine other amazing shows and watch what and how they connected with the industry judges. Then, with the help of our incredible mentor, Dina Hillier, we got to work our idea into a full-length pitch. That process was invaluable for learning the artistic and business demands for a TV show. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, we got to take our pitch to showrunners and execs at studios, broadcast and cable networks!” said Marc Muszynski, First Annual Pitch Competition Winner.

Submissions will be accepted December 6, 2013 to January 15, 2014 through the website http://atxtvfestival.wpengine.com/pitch. The twenty- five semi-finalists will be announced on February 27, 2014 and the top ten finalists will be announced on April 3, 2014.

ATX Television Festival is also pleased to unveil the initial list of confirmed panelists who will be at the third annual festival in Austin, TX June 5 – 8, 2014, as well as the first round of confirmed programming partners. In addition to the new programming, ATX Television Festival is excited to announce two special reunions:

Netflix is the premiere destination for original programming, making the platform a perfect partner for ATX Television Festival, which takes place June 6-9 in Austin, TX.

In addition to hosting the opening night festivities, Netflix has joined ATX Television Festival as a premiere sponsor of the festival.

ATX Television Festival Takes Place June 6-9
 
Austin, TX- Tuesday, May 14, 2013 – ATX Television Festival, the first festival devoted to television’s history and future, is honored to have HBO return for a second year as a festival sponsor, and grow their relationship with the premiere of the HBO original documentary, LOVE, MARILYN for the festival’s first ever Closing Night screening and after party.

 

Coinciding with the 50th Anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s death, LOVE, MARILYN features remarkable footage and audiotapes along with Marilyn’s own handwritten letters, diaries, notes, poems, journals and notebooks, which document her private life against the backdrop of her very public life and loves. Written, directed & produced by Liz Garbus, the film also includes readings and appearances by F. Murray Abraham, Elizabeth Banks, Adrien Brody, Ellen Burstyn, Glenn Close, Hope Davis, Viola Davis, Jennifer Ehle, Ben Foster, Paul Giamatti, Jack Huston, Stephen Lang, Lindsey Lohan, Janet McTeer, Jeremy Piven, Oliver Platt, David Strathairn, Lili Taylor, Uma Thurman, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood. Reservations for Closing Night will be available to ATX Television Festival badge holders (all levels) when the full festival schedule is released.  Venue is subject to capacity.
ATX Television Festival DAY WRISTBANDS will go on sale on Friday, May 17th at 9am CST.

Southwest Airlines Confirmed As Official Airline Of ATX Television Festival 

Austin, TX-Thursday, March 28, 2013 – ATX Television Festival, the first festival devoted to television’s history and future, is pleased to announce the initial wave of programming, including world premieres for several new shows and season openers, as well as a highly anticipated first ever cast reunion of Boy Meets World.  In addition, Southwest Airlines will be the official airline provider of the festival.  The 2013 festival will take place June 6-9 in Austin, TX.

Joining creator Michael Jacobs (who will also feature past hits: Dinosaurs, Charles in Charge and My Two Dads) will be Ben Savage (Cory Matthews), Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), Matt Lawrence (Jack Hunter), Maitland Ward (Rachel McGuire), and yet to be announced Special Guests that will not disappoint for the cast reunion.

“I’m grateful to the ATX Television Festival for including Boy and Girl Meets World this year. ATX Television Festival is excited to welcome three new networks bringing premiere programming to the second annual festival.  AMC will bring both a new series and a returning favorite, including the pilot episode for Low Winter Sun with several cast members including Lennie James (The Walking Dead, Hung), and executive producer Chris Mundy (Cold Case, Criminal Minds).  In addition, the Emmy® Award nominated series Hell On Wheels will be at the festival to promote its upcoming third season.  TNT will also participate in the festival for the first time with the world premiere of the first episode of season two of Perception, with cast members Rachael Leigh Cook and Scott Wolf and show creator Kenneth Biller, along with the first episode of season three of Falling Skies, with cast members in attendance.  The third network making its first appearance at the ATX Television Festival is IFC with the first episode of season two of their popular talk show Comedy Bang! For The Second Annual Festival June 6 – 9 in Austin, TX

Austin, TX— Thursday, November 1, 2012 — ATX Television Festival is pleased to announce its collaboration with Final Draft, the creators of the number one selling screenwriting application in the world, to host their first-ever Pitch Competition.  This competition will allow aspiring writers and show creators to pitch their original idea for a scripted series to some of the biggest decision makers in the television industry.

Participants will have ninety seconds to convince industry judges on their original idea for a scripted series through a self-filmed video. The competition is open to any and all pitches for scripted shows: a 30-minute for a traditional network, an hour drama for cable, a hybrid for original online content. The only guideline is that it must be for a scripted (non-reality) series and pitched in under a minute and half.

ATX Television Festival will screen all submissions and choose twenty-five semi-finalists to be judged by a panel of industry professionals including: Bill Lawrence (Creator/Producer of Scrubs and Cougar Town), Bryan Seabury (VP of Drama Development at CBS Network), Liz Tigelaar (Creator of Life Unexpected & writer on American Dreams, Nashville, and Revenge), Kyle Killen (Creator of Lone Star & Awake), Peter Billingsley (Executive Producer of Sullivan & Son, Dinner for Five, and Executive at Wild West Picture Productions), David Hudgins (Executive Producer of Friday Night Lights & Parenthood), and special guest judges, who will narrow the twenty-five semi-finalists down to ten finalists.

The ten finalists will compete at ATX Television Festival (June 6-9, 2013) in Austin, TX to pitch live before the panel of judges. After hearing all ten of the live pitches, the judges will choose one winner.  This winner will receive a meeting with one of the judges (based on the show’s genre/judges’ availability) to explore the idea of their series and gain notes to better develop the series.  After the pitch is honed, the winner will then get a pitch meeting in front of one of the festival’s studio/network partners to try and sell their pilot for production!

All participants will receive a discount code for 25% off the latest version of Final Draft (retailing at $249) as well as $25 off of any level ATX Television Festival badge.  The semi-finalists will receive Panel badges to the Festival, allowing them to see any panels, including the Final Pitch Competition. The ten finalists will each receive a Weekend badge to the Festival, plus two tickers to the opening night screening and after-party to start the festival off right!  The finalists will also receive a free copy of the most recent version Final Draft, courtesy of Final Draft.

“The pitch competition is a perfect addition to the festival. A truth in TV is that you don’t get paid to write your show unless you can sell it as a pitch. Like writing, pitching is an art form that needs to be practiced, honed and perfected,” said Bryan Seabury, VP of Drama Development at CBS Network.  “The importance of pitching is often overlooked so this contest is yet another example of ATX understanding the TV industry and providing a great service to its attendees.”

All three seasons of the bizarre and hilarious series will be screened back-to-back with stars Rob Corddry, Rob Huebel, Ken Marino, Erinn Hayes, and executive producer Jonathan Stern in attendance, plus all sorts of special extras and secret drop-in guests!  This will be a ticketed event ($65) which will include an original, limited edition, Mondo poster (the famed collectible art boutique of the Alamo Drafthouse) by artist GrahamErwin.  Following the marathon, ticket holders are invited to attend an exclusive after-party at the Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel. Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV:: return with new episodes on Adult Swim this August.

ATX TELEVISION FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES OPENING NIGHT PROGRAMMING FROM USA NETWORK’S HIT ORIGINAL SERIES SUITS AND ROYAL PAINS
Inaugural Television Festival Adds Additional Shows and Confirmed Special Guests

Austin, TX-Friday, April 4, 2012– ATX Television Festival is pleased to announce their partnership with the #1 network in all of basic cable, USA Network, for opening night programming at the festival.  USA Network will screen episodes of the original series Suits and Royal Pains at the red carpet opening night screening event.  ATX Television Festival has added a screening of Once Upon A Time to the festival programming as well as additional confirmed special guests.

ATX Television Festival, co-founded by Caitlin McFarland and Emily Gipson, will bring the festival experience generally reserved for movies and music to television lovers.  The lineup for the inaugural year includes some of the most celebrated shows of the past and present as well as an amazing list of television actors, directors, writers and industry professionals.  In addition the festival will offer live music from bands featured in television shows or fronted by television stars as well as happy hour social events to bring everyone attending together to celebrate the medium of television.  The first annual festival is this June 1-3 in Austin, TX.

Opening night of ATX Television Festival on June 1 will feature two popular original series from USA Network, which is kicking off its most powerful summer of original series in June.  The red carpet premiere event at the State Theater (713 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX) will feature the Suits season 1 finale episode along with an episode from season 3 of Royal Pains. In addition, viewers will be treated to exclusive footage from the upcoming season premieres. Both shows return to USA with all new seasons on June 14 and June 6, respectively. Members of the USA shows’ cast and crew will be in attendance at this red carpet screening event, including Suits Executive Producer David Bartis and Royal Pains Executive Producer Michael Rauch.  More details and attending cast members from the network will be confirmed soon.

Following the red carpet premiere at the State Theater attendees will be invited to join the cast and crew from USA Network and Festival panelists at the Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel (701 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX) for the opening night reception.  The reception will feature live music and will be sponsored by Tito’s Vodka and the Austin Film Commission.

“When we started programming the festival, we had USA as our number one choice for Opening Night.  No one does summer series like USA Network; what better fit to kick off a Television festival in June than Suits and Royal Pains,” said festival Co-Founder Caitlin McFarland.

 

Commenting on opening night Co-Founder Emily Gipson said “we love USA’s slogan ‘Characters Welcome.’  It fits perfectly, not only for Opening Night, but with our overall Festival goals — from panelists to fans, all characters are welcome at ATX.”

 

ATX Television Festival has also confirmed a screening of the hit ABC original series Once Upon A Time.  At the Once Upon A Time screening viewers will be treated to the pilot episode and the second episode of the first season titled, “The Thing You Love Most.”  Consulting Producer Jane Espenson will join attendees on this journey to the Enchanted Forest and answer questions about the show in a Q&A.

Additional special guests have confirmed their attendance at the first year of ATX Television Festival including Jason Ritter from the NBC series Parenthood, James Lafferty from CW Network’s One Tree Hill, and Children’s Hospital & The League star Nick Kroll.

 

Scott Porter, who played the role of Jason Street in Friday Night Lights, has confirmed attendance to round out the long list of cast and crew members attending the free outdoor screening of the show.  ATX Television Festival has also confirmed that Explosions In The Sky will be playing the music video for their new single “Postcard From 1952” at the Friday Night Lights Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow screening/concert.  ATX Television Festival is thrilled to be hosting the first public viewing of the stunning music video.

The festival co-founders, Caitlin McFarland and Emily Gipson, created ATX Television Festival to bring the festival experience to television lovers.  They realized they were more excited about the contents of their DVRs than what was playing on the screens in theaters and the Television Festival was born!  ATX Television Festival has the goal of serving both the community and industry professionals by giving them the opportunity to celebrate and discuss all aspects of TV’s past, present & future.

ATX Television Festival has teamed up with MTV to give Festival attendees an advance look at the second season of Teen Wolf, plus the chance to ask Executive Producer Jeff Davis about what to look forward to in season two.

The first annual ATX Television Festival will host members of the cast and crew of the Emmy award winning Friday Night Lights at an outdoor Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow screening/concert.  The series pilot episode and the series finale episode, “Always”, will be screened in the parking lot of the San Jose Hotel.  Admission to this incredible event will be free to the community and attendees will be treated to live music from Alicia Witt (who played Cheryl Sproles), Dora Madison Burge (who played Becky) and more Friday Night Lights inspired music to come!  A full list of attending Friday Night Lights cast and crew is below.

Hasbro Studios and The Hub Television Network have teamed up with ATX Television Festival to celebrate the kid in all of us with a Saturday morning cartoon event! My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, Transformers Prime and the world premiere of Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters will be screened while attendees snuggle up with blankets and pillows enjoying pancakes provided by Batter Blaster.  To make this the ultimate Saturday morning cartoon event, Hasbro Studios is coming armed with lots of toys, DVDs and other goodies for attendees.  Spend Saturday morning the way it was always intended, watching cartoons in your pajamas and eating pancakes!
