Sundance Now &
ATX Television Festival

This Close, a groundbreaking Sundance Now original dramedy created, written, and starring Shoshannah Stern and Josh Feldman, both of whom are deaf, is the streaming service’s first ever straight-to-series order. Based on a series of shorts featured at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival’s Short Form Episodic Showcase, this honest, funny and endearing show explores universal and relatable themes of love and friendship — in its many permutations.

Twenty-something year-old best friends living in Los Angeles, Kate (Stern) and Michael (Feldman), try to balance their personal and professional lives. She’s newly engaged and struggles to grow at work, while he battles self-destructive writer’s block after having his heart broken. As they each tackle their own issues, their friendship is put to the test.

Comprised of six, 30-minute episodes, This Close also features a talented ensemble cast including Zach Gilford who plays Danny, Kate’s (Stern) fiancé; Cheryl Hines as Stella, a PR maven and Kate’s boss; Colt Prattes as Ryan, Michael’s (Feldman) ex; and Marlee Matlin as Michael’s mother, Annie, a recovering alcoholic trying to reconnect with her son.
